Deven Kaufman is a well-established member of C&T’s Indianapolis office starting his career here nearly 15 years ago. We took a moment to chat with him, learning a few insights about this amazing accomplishment and the rep who earned it:

Q: How did you get started in this field?

A: I started more on the architectural side, then I worked with general and MEP contractors before getting into the food industry. Working in all these different sectors helped shape my understanding of the robust scope of work needed to execute a well-designed kitchen equipment layout.

Q: Key traits of a well-designed food service operation?

A: Understanding the menu and the process of the operation is key to determining what is needed to make it work.  An important trait is the efficiency of the equipment and its function within the flow of the kitchen.  It’s nice when you can also incorporate flexibility to adapt to future improvements.

Q: How has the food service equipment and design Industry changed in recent years, and how do you stay updated on new trends?

A: In recent years, technological advancements have enabled equipment to become more automated and self-contained. To keep up with changes like this, I try to attend trade shows, conferences, factory tours, and other training opportunities.

Q: How will this achievement shape your outlook on the future of the industry:

A: This achievement helps establish myself in the industry and recognizes the hard work I put into each project. It's motivating to see that my energy and expertise are appreciated and valued by the stakeholders (i.e.: customers, factory reps, colleagues) involved with my projects and in the industry.
